The NinevehGL Forum uses a new concept of "socialized forum" or as we like to say "Tweet Forum".

Here is the deal:
  1. No new registration is required. Just sign in with your Twitter account and authorize the NinevehGL Forum.
  2. Once you’re in, you'll be able to "Follow a Thread", that means every time that thread receive a new post or update you'll receive a mention on your twitter.
  3. Besides, you can enable "Auto Share", then every new post and/or thread you make will be tweeted on your timeline. (By default, auto-share is enabled only for your threads)

Forum Rules:

1. We understand human comunication can become "hot" sometimes. So some insults and bad words ARE allowed. Just don't push too much being an asshole all the time.

2. SPAMMERS are not allowed. There are penalties for this kind of user and they can be banned forever.

3. You can report other users, if you judge necessary. An user reported many times by many people can also be banned forever. However you can also receive penalties for report deliberately for no apparent reason.

If there is a similar thread title, make sure the other one doesn't already have the answer you're looking for.

Hi;

I zipped and uploaded .obj and .mtl file together to a server. In my code, I download it and load it.

In the simulator, it is successfull.

In the device, sometimes model is rendered, but suddenly disappears.

And sometimes it appears in green color:

Here is my code:

Where am I wrong?

Hi,

Nothing seems wrong about importing a 3D file.

As you said it works in simulator but on the device errors comes up, maybe you should check some items:
- Did you run with Instruments and check the memory?
- What's the size of the mode?
- Any memory warning?

Besides, you should remove codes like this one:

CAEAGLLayer *eaglLayer = (CAEAGLLayer *)_nglView.layer;
eaglLayer.opaque = NO;

eaglLayer.drawableProperties = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys:[NSNumber numberWithBool:YES], kEAGLDrawablePropertyRetainedBacking, kEAGLColorFormatRGBA8, kEAGLDrawablePropertyColorFormat, nil];

Doing this is the same as trying to change UIKit internal variables without calling the properly wrapper methods. Remember that NinevehGL is a wrapper for OpenGL, if you make change directly to the NinevehGL internal variable without using the property method you can reach a dead end, finding unexpected behaviors.

If I remove that code, I cannot grab screenshot. That's why I am using it.

And yes, I am getting memory warning after 4-5 models loaded. Size of the modals are 2-5 MBs

So the memory is the issue you're getting on the device. On the simulator it does not happen because the Mac memory and bus are way bigger than on iOS devices.

I see. Do you have any advice how to manage memory in a better way in that view controller that has NGLView?

Well, the memory issues is all about the mesh and textures. Optimizing them involves much more than just programming. The 3D file it self should be optimized.
